A RARE CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION JOHN ADAMS 1866 PATTERN REVOLVER, serial no. 57,
built to the Patent standard 1758 of July 12, 1861 and Patent 1959 of 1866, with blued octagonal 6in. barrel integral with the frame, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight to rear of standing breech, the top-strap signed 'ADAMS'S PATENT SMALL ARMS COMPANY, 391 STRAND, LONDON', hinged under-barrel rammer retaining the cylinder arbor, plain blued cylinder with 'water-wheel' nipple fences, action sides attached to the frame via screws, the right hand side engraved 'ADAMS'S PATENT IMPROVED No.57', double-action trigger mechanism, chequered walnut one-piece grip, iron butt-cap, the whole retaining a strong amount of original finish and complete with its oak storage case relined and compartmented in green baize and containing a brass R. Adam bullet mould, a mahogany cleaning rod, a reproduction bag-shaped flask, a nipple key and cap-tin

Provenance: Very few of these revolvers are known, with the highest recorded serial number to date being 262. It can be safely assumed that less than 300 were produced, with many being converted to cartridge arms at a later date
